With the inane sensuality of Niemeyer’s Brasilia and the sublime majesty of Iguaçu Falls as a backdrop, two American boys misguidedly retreat from their urban ennui by searching for ‘pure and clean native girls’. The apparent innocence of this sophomoric romance is infected with rambling eugenics infused proclamations of the beauty of mixed blood and a new ‘future’. The sardonic apathy of this faux-melancholic youth filters their fin-de-siècle exoticisms, their desire for true love, and their most guilt riddled enigma, the pursuit of pure empathy with poverty.
