Vehicle Blues out June on Bridgetown Records

 Changer - 2010

Chicago, Illimois' Gabe Holcombe has been releasing deeply personal solo recordings on DIY labels including his own Lillerne Tape Club imprint for several years. Often released in editions of 100 copies or less, his bedroom recordings quickly vanished into the cherished collections of the Midwest's cassette culture underground with little more than word of mouth.

Changer is the first professionally manufactures recording for Holcombe. Blending the hypnotic textures of shoegaze and ambient music into the simple pop song form. Holcombe has refined his Vehicle Blues project to the most essential elements. Propulsive rhythms composed of unconventional guitar tunings and equipment back catchy and melodic vocals that tell the stories of a lonely and alienating move from Kansas to Chicago in the Winter of 2008. While earlier recordings such as Punks on Transit were bathed in the cloaking of tape hiss, the execution of Changer eschews the lo-fidelity approach in favor of a richly detailed recording style. Unafraid to hide anything, the four seemingly simple pop songs on this EP hide subtle and complex layers of guitar that complement Holcombe's sparing choice of lyrics.
